Beachside bolthole
Overlooking the Strait of Dover, this Victorian townhouse serves as a weekend retreat for a London-based actor who sought a vibrant, playful holiday atmosphere. Our design approach was guided by the dual purpose of creating a cosy haven for solitary relaxation and seamlessly transforming into a welcoming venue for weekend gatherings and house parties. The result is a versatile space that balances intimacy with expansiveness.
The client’s art collection was thoughtfully hung throughout the house, helping to tell the owner’s story; their humour, interests and what catches their attention. You can find a Marc Camille Chaimowicz collage of ice-creams overlooking the seafront, alongside an abstraction of rusty hinges and sitting opposite a witty print by Ian Hamilton Finlay. The artworks are like friends, each bringing their distinct voice into the room.
